This is it, you’re finally ready to join the workforce or you’re finally ready to take steps towards your dream job. But, you’re still pursuing your education and have no credentials. It’s okay, most people get their first official job in retail, restaurants, or babysitting. No matter what job you’re going for here are some tips to help you land it:
Do some research
If you’re applying for a job at a store or restaurant, look into the company’s history. Be familiar with their mission statement, know whether they own any other stores or restaurants. Knowing these things can help you figure out if this company is the right fit for you before you pursue the position.
Remember your priorities
Try to get a job in the field you want to go into, if you’re pursuing a business degree maybe a job based on sales could help you gain experience. Share with your interviewer your goals, and how this can make you a valuable asset to the company.
Dress for success
The first thing your interviewer will see is your outfit, so dress professionally. If you’re not sure what to wear a simple google search can help. Avoid plunging necklines, cut outs, and ill-fitting clothing.
Even though you’ve done some research, have questions prepared for your interviewer. Ask them about the daily responsibilities of the position, what it’s like working for the company, remember you want to know as much about the company as they know about you.
If you find your time at the company is over, hand in a resignation letter instead of just not showing up. It may seem like a small job outside of your field so how you leave doesn’t matter. But establish a pattern and try to leave on a good note.
