As I officially say goodbye to teenagedom and hello to the graduations, celebrations and maturity that is one’s twenties… I am terrified. But, I am extremely grateful to have seen twenty years of life. And with these twenty years I am even more proud to say that I have learned a lot from my experiences, my friends and family and I want to share 20 of the things I have learned with you all.
- Let things go
Focusing on things that have hurt you is no good and can staunch the process of moving on. Express yourself and focus on things to come.
- Take a breathe.
Sometimes life seems like it’s moving too fast and you simply can’t keep up. It’s okay to take a moment to breathe, take it all in, and think before acting.
- Take your time
Rushing through things isn’t a great idea, take your time to make sure things are as you want them to be.
- Things won’t change unless you make them
If you would like to see a change in yourself or in your surroundings, instigate it yourself.
- Get rid of toxicity
Cut unnecessary negativity out of your life, if you don’t have to deal with it then don’t.
- Be yourself
Embrace things about yourself even if they’re imperfect.
- Explore new things
Whether it’s going to the movies alone or trying a new restaurant. Even the small acts count.
- Get out of your comfort zone
It’s easy to make a million reasons not to do something but fear of risk should not be one.
- Make new friends
Having friends from different walks of life is healthy and rounds out your character.
- Make sure your friends are trustworthy
Make sure you have a few friends you can trust and are in your life for the long haul.
- Take care of yourself
Try to maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle. It’s hard when you’re at work or in school but it’s necessary.
- Value yourself
Know your worth and keep it in mind through most tasks in your life.
- It’s okay to be upset
Everything isn’t always going to be great and that’s okay.
- It’s okay to be honest
In fact, it’s crucial to be honest not only with others but with yourself as well.
- Invest in yourself
Invest time in yourself whether it’s something small like making time to relax or starting a business invest in yourself.
- Start saving
Put aside a small amount per week and start saving up for your future or for emergencies.
- Set goals
Small goals are great motivators to larger goals. Set daily goals every day reaching towards an overall goal.
- Learn as much as you can
Every experience can be a learning experience, take something away from every interaction if you can.
- Make mistakes
Of course, not all the time but, a mistake isn’t the end all be all of anything.
- You control your life so never settle
Ultimately, you have control of your life and it is never okay to settle.
